Violet Sepor, Bourjassotte Grise, & Socorro Black are all nearly identical fig varieties. They have an eating experience that is hard to beat. Here in Philadelphia, they remind me of Smith. They're also one of the best commercial varieties because of their long shelf life.

A lot of growers report strong growth and good production, but it's not a variety that responds well to heavier pruning. The same can be said for extreme winter damage. My trees have a hard time bouncing back after a nasty winter. If I had to guess, they're not among the hardiest fig varieties.

Other than their hardiness, these varieties check all of the boxes. They're rain-resistant, ripen midseason, and taste great, making them one of the best choices outside of colder zones (5-7) when growing them in the soil.
