Baud in France says this fig is very similar to Bourjassotte Noire but two weeks earlier and more rain-resistant. After seeing Herman2 (a local grower) succeed with his Noire de Barbentane planted in NJ, I decided to follow suit.

It's hardy and rain-resistant, although it ripens late in the season. It's definitely a top-tier fig variety in terms of flavor. It's in the same flavor category as Black Madeira, but it's better for a humid/short-season climate and it's a commercial fig like Bourjassotte Noire & Brogiotto Nero. Well adapted to even triple-digit temperatures. It's one of the few that can handle it without spoilage.
