Montalcino Rosso is an Italian fig variety. I don't know its history beyond that.

This fig has a lot going for it—one of my favorites in 2024 and 2025 after proving to be rain resistant, very productive, reasonably early, and tasty. It has a long stem and long neck, allowing for easy harvesting, and is about as long as Moro de Caneva and Verdolino/Salame. I have a number of trees from this variety planted in the soil to eventually figure out its hardiness.

In the second video, I mention the name of the fig as Salato. That is incorrect. It is Montalcino Rosso.
