LSU O'Rourke is an official LSU release named after Dr. O'Rourke who headed their breeding program during the 1950s. Before LSU formally released the cultivar, cuttings made their way into the nursery trade, where it was informally propagated and sold as "Improved Celeste." Today, there are 3 variations of Improved Celeste in circulation: LSU O'Rourke, Improved Celeste, and Improved Celeste O'Rourke Not (ICON). Additionally, some nurseries sell LSU O'Rourke under the name Celeste. It can be quite confusing, but for sale is the real LSU O'Rourke fig.

O'Rourke is nearly identical to Celeste, but it seems to have a browner pulp and a lighter flavor than other Celeste variants. For this reason, I don't believe LSU O'Rourke is a child of Celeste. Instead, a variation LSU likely used during their breeding.
