One of the best new fig varieties.

Domenica Blanca Negra is an Italian heirloom fig that has been grown in NYC for generations. Originally from Sicily, found and introduced by my friend, Danny Gentile.

According to the owner, this variety produces white and black figs on the same branch, similar to Coll de Dama Blanca Negra.

Even if that were not true, this variety has a fantastic flavor and is a unique and new variety I've not seen before. Of the few fruits I've been able to try in late 2025, one had an acidic and very strong berry flavor. The other was the closest fig I've eaten to strawberry jam.

The eye is sealed shut with honey; the shape and stem length are ideal for humid areas. I hope it will end up being a hardy variety, considering the many NYC winters it's gone through.

I'll be planting this tree in 2026, intending to have cuttings available in 2027.
