Origin: Les Allix, Mongauzy, Gironde, France. Introduced to the world by Figues du Monde. Thank you to both Les and Thierry. This is the best new variety I've come across in the last 3 years. Now I can share it with you. That's what it's all about.

I believe Allix is a variation or mutation of Bourjassotte Noire, Violette de Soillies, or Noire de Barbentane. It's smaller, more rain-resistant, earlier, dries better, and just as tasty.

Comparing trees planted in the ground, it ripened alongside Hardy Chicago. So it's kind of what I've been searching for. A truly early and problem-free version of the Black Madeira-esque eating experience.

The only question now is, how hardy is it?

Here is Figues du Monde's description: "Pruiné black fig wrinkling at maturity, the neck is marked (like a small Col de Dame) red pulp becoming darker, small round central cavity, around 25 grams, pasty fig with a jam taste, excellent in fresh or for drying, spread and early maturity from August 25 to mid September."
